Well...XO is actually wrong about treason. When Trump encouraged the Russians to hack Clinton's email accounts he wasn't committing "treason". Trump asked the RUSSIANS to investigate Hillary's e-mails.
He was accused, rightfully of both being silly and treasonous. No heads came close to exploding.

But when Trump encouraged the Russians to hack Clinton's emails which would get him information that would benefit his campaign, he violated the Federal Campaign Finance Law that prohibits any person from "solicitation of anything of value given to influence an election, from a foreign national, including a foreign government." That is a felony.
Side note...
The last presidential candidate to commit treason was Richard Nixon, late in the 1968 presidential election campaign when, during the Vietnam War, he contacted the government of South Vietnam in what turned out to be a successful attempt to interfere in the Paris peace talks. It's why Ford pardoned Nixon. Nixon should have been shot or hanged.
